Visit the Market!

This week at the Andover Farmers’ Market come meet artist Jerry Smith as he performs using the Mountain Dulcimer.  Jerry has been a member of the Andover Artists Guild for two years and a resident of Andover for 18 years.  Stop by the AAG tent to hear some beautiful music.

While your visiting with your favorite vendors stop by to have your child’s facepainted on the Porch.  Our weekly craft in the barn will be hand tulips, sure to add charm to any room!

Help Andover Be America’s Favorite Farmers Market!

It’s summertime and that means two things: 1) There are loads of delicious farm fresh produce available at Andover Farmers’ Market every week; and 2) American Farmland Trust’s America’s Favorite Farmers Markets™ contest has kicked into gear and we need your votes to win!

The process is simple. To vote for our market, all you have to do is:

1.) Go to www.farmland.org/vote

2.) Type in Andover ; and,

3.) Click “Vote”

That’s it. That’s all it takes to bring ANDOVER one step closer to being America’s favorite farmers market!

Now American Farmland Trust has introduced leader boards where you can keep track of the Top 5 markets receiving votes in Massachusetts.

Want to support multiple markets in Mass? Search by state and you can vote for more of your favorites – just remember, you only have one vote to cast per market!

Are You A Farmers’ Market Fan?

Would you like to get involved?

The Andover Farmers’ Market is now in its fourth year, and growing by leaps and bounds. Hundreds of people flock to the market each week to enjoy the fresh produce and fun activities. Market manager Debbie DeSmet has planned a full program of activities, crafts, demonstrations, and live music that make the Andover Farmers’ Market a fun place to be on Saturday afternoons. The Historical Society needs volunteers to help with set up, staffing the Society’s information booth and reception desk, and clean up. The Market runs Saturdays, 12:30-3:30 pm, through October 9th. This is a terrific opportunity for high school and college students, or for anyone who enjoys the Farmers’ Market and working with the public. Come to the Market this Saturday!

We are entering the third week of the Andover Farmers’ Market and there is much more to come.  Make sure to stop by this Saturday and visit your favorite vendors Rain or Shine!

With plenty of family friendly activities, new and returning vendors, and a free raffle you are sure to have a good time.    This week’s Free Raffle item is a bunch of Swiss Chard donated by Joseph’s Garden.  Sign-up to win at the Andover Historical Society tent. 

This week Chris Nassise of The Green Woodshop will be demonstrating furniture making in the Andover Historical Society woodshop.  Stop in to say hello and watch as this skillful craftsman demonstrate his trade. 

Leyla Schimmel and the Pumpkins and Poultry 4-H group will be bringing special visitors to the market including some friendly chickens and goats.   This group promotes chemical and cruelty free farming.  These 4-H kids help plant and harvest the food they eat and know that food doesn’t just come from a box or a can.  In a  world over-abundant with processed food it’s important to support the local farmer and buy organic produce.

Silwia Lepicki, the Farmers’ Market intern, has prepared a special craft in honor of our special furry and feathery visitors called “Chicken or the Egg?”.  Family’s and children are welcome to stop in the barn and check out this unique and fun craft.  Also, visit the Andover High School students Facepainting on the Porch. 

If your in the mood for a sweet treat we’re sure Honey Flour Bakerycan satisfy your craving.  Jen Warren, Andover Farmers’ Market vendor was featured in the Andover Townsman this week.   Check out the article!

With so much to do at the Market which surrounds the historic 1819 Amos Blanchard house, home of the Andover Historical Society, you don’t want to miss it!

Flats Mentor Farmer Summer Vegetable List

Flats Mentor Farm is a returning vendor for the 2010 Andover Farmers’ Market.  Flats Mentor Farm is based in Lancaster, Massachusetts and assists and supports small farmers of diverse ethnic backgrounds with the land, farming infrastructure and marketing assistance needed to promote and sustain successful farming enterprises.  This will be their third season at the Andover Farmers’ Market.  They bring a wide variety of Asian produce and we have provided a list for you to look at.  Join us at the Market this summer and enjoy a tasty treat!

Farmers’ Market season is coming!

Plans are underway for the 4th Andover Farmers’ Market season and there’s still plenty of time to get involved. Farmers’ Market Extended to October 17th!

Due to demand by our vendors and visitors the Andover Farmers’ Market has been extended one week to October 17th. The 17th is a day to be in downtown Andover. Andover Day celebrates the grand reopening of Main St wcamera 7-17-07 022 2ith concerts, sidewalk sales, and food. Why not stop by  the farmers’ market for one more chance to enjoy the season’s bounty and all your favorite vendors? The market opens early on this special occasion running from 10:30-3:30. Don’t miss it!!

Farmers’ Market Success

camera-7-17-07-047  The third year of the Andover Farmers’ Market opened with a bang this past Saturday. Nearly 400 people attended the market. Several vendors even sold out!  Photographers from local newspapers were in attendance, snapping images of this wonderful community event. Be sure to join us this Saturday the 18th for fabulous locally produced products from over a dozen vendors, family fun in the barn, and artist demonstrations.

               The market runs every Saturday from now until October 10 from 12:30-3:30 on the grounds of the Historical Society. Hope to see you there!

This summer, American Farmland Trust’s contest for America’s Favorite Farmers Markets, is a way for market customers to voice their support and take pride in their community. Farmers markets can register to join the contest by visiting, www.farmland.org/marketmanager. Customers across the nation will vote their market to the top on-line at www.farmland.org/vote. One large, medium, and small farmers market will win the title of America’s Favorite Farmers Market in 2009, and the winning markets will each receive a free No Farms No Food ® tote bag giveaway for their customers.
