Genealogy
Published and non-published sources of Andover families make this a valuable genealogy center in New England. The Charlotte Helen Abbott Collection contains her works from 1853 to 1920 and is the beginning for any search. Church records, cemetery inventories and extensive family files round out the collection. We have extensive records on the Abbott, Ames, Bailey, Carrier, Chandler, Foster, Frye, Holt, Jenkins, Osgood, Peters, Poor, and Wardwell families; we also have records for hundreds of other families.
Conducting Genealogical Research can be a difficult task. Please contact our Research Center if you need help from our experienced researchers.

The following society is in the process of undertaking the enormous project of making books and images in
public domain available on the internet:
U.S. Internet Genealogical Society
They have transcribed one of the most comprehensive books about early Andover - HISTORICAL SKETCHES OF ANDOVER,
(COMPRISING THE PRESENT TOWNS OF NORTH ANDOVER AND ANDOVER), Essex County
MASSACHUSETTS. BY SARAH LORING BAILEY - and it's now available online. It's not as pretty as the hardcopy
(which we do have available in our gift shop) and there are some typographical errors from the OCR scan, but
it's extraordinarilly easy to search for specific information while
conducting research. Use the above link to our List of General References & Resources
to view the Bailey book online via the USIGS website.
